Description:
Access and Functional Needs Training provides the information and tools needed to help assist community members with physical challenges in a response or deployment situation. The training provides awareness of these challenges, personal stories of struggle and allows each person to experience access and functional needs that occur in our society. With these experiences, the trainers hope that each person will be better equipped to provide assistance to people with different abilities.

This specialized course provides essential training for disaster response personnel to effectively assist individuals with visual impairments during emergencies. Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of crucial logistics, including the proper use of white canes and human guide techniques. The course emphasizes effective communication methods, covering interpreter rules and appropriate verbal interactions. Through case studies, practical scenarios, and clear do's and don'ts, students will develop and practice strategies to ensure the safety and well-being of visually impaired individuals in disaster situations.
