Description:
Taking a trauma -informed approach with people describes the different types of traumas people experience, the incidence of trauma in various populations, and the effects of trauma on people. The presentation identifies the characteristics and key principles of a trauma-informed approach. In addition, trauma-informed care and Universal expectations as strategies to resist re-traumatization are explained. Lastly, mitigating vicarious trauma for providers is discussed.

Target Audience: The target group in each community consists of the Local Community Social Support Networks, including local public health and mental health systems, faith leaders, law enforcement and fire responders, and Medical Reserve Corps Unit leaders and volunteers.

A community grant from the Carolyn Watson Rural Community Foundation allows the Oklahoma Medical Reserve Corps Stress Response Team to present Taking a Trauma-Informed Approach with People to rural communities.
