OK County: CERT (Community Emergency Response Team)Hi everyone! One of OKMRC's very own volunteers, Laura Weaver, is a certified CERT instructor! She has kindly offered to teach this amazing training December 3rd - 5th at the Oklahoma City-County Health Department! "The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program educates volunteers about disaster preparedness for the hazards that may occur where they live. CERT trains volunteers in basic disaster response skills, such as: Fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. The CERT program offers a consistent, nationwide approach to volunteer training and organization that professional responders can rely on during disaster situations, allowing them to focus on more complex tasks" (FEMA). The class will be from 8 AM -4 PM on December 3rd and 4th, then 8 AM - 12 PM on December 5th. About the instructor: Laura, originally from Texas, moved to Hawaii in 1999, where she became actively involved in the Islands Emergency Management program. As a volunteer reservist with the city and county of Honolulu, she collaborated with first responders and taught emergency rescue to the public. With extensive experience in emergency preparedness and community engagement, Laura has instructed various preparedness groups. She also volunteers with local public safety agencies, including the Medical Reserve Corps, Homeland Security, City of Norman Emergency Management, OKC Fire Corps, and the Residents Firefighters Academy Alumni.
